FAQ

Payments are expected at the time of the appointment or before the appointment. You may pay through your patient portal, over the phone, or in the office.

Dr. Galerkin will give you enough medications to last until your next appointment. If you cancel and reschedule, it is suggested to make your appointment before your medication needs a refill to avoid refill fees. If you do need a refill you may request it through your patient portal and Dr. Galerkin may take 48 hours for a refill request at his discretion.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. If you’re experiencing suicidal ideation and thinking about suicide, please call the National Hotline for Mental Health Crisis and Suicide Prevention by dialing 988.

Board Certified Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in psychiatry and have passed the required examination to receive certification from The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Psychiatrists diagnose and prescribe medications for patients suffering from mental health issues.

  • Board certified psychiatrist education and training:
    • Psychiatrists attend 8 years of school post high school to receive their medical degree and then complete a 4-year residency program in psychiatry.
    • They Must Pass the state board to earn their medical licensure as well as the examination from the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

 

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners hold an active registered nurses license, has training in psychiatry and can diagnose and prescribe medications for patients suffering from mental illness.

  • Psychiatric Nurse Practioner education and training.
    • Earn a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and pass the NCLEX- RN examination to receive the RN Licensure
    • They must complete a master’s degree program in nursing.
    • To receive the psychiatry specialty, the nurse practitioner must complete a minimum of a 1-year psychiatric program consisting of academic and clinical experience that requires instruction supervised by a M.D, D.O. or another advanced Nurse Practioner.

 

A psychologist is not a medical doctor and cannot prescribe medicine or give a medical diagnosis. Both psychologists and psychiatrists can provide psychotherapy however Psychologists rely on providing talk and/or behavioral therapy. Psychologist s are often referred to as therapists. Therapist is a generic term that can also refer to a licensed counselor or clinical psychologist authorized to treat mental illness without the use of medication. Psychiatrists and Psychologists or other Licensed mental health professions often work together to provide patients with the best mental health outcomes.

  • Psychologist Education:
    • Psychologists typically hold doctorates degree in psychology. A licensed Doctor of psychology can take 8 to 10 years of education and training.
    • Psychologist are required 2 years of clinical supervision and clinical training and must pass the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology.
    • They must pass the Nevada State Licensure Exam.
